Customer Support Engineer
W2 Contract
Location: Detroit, MI
This position acts as the key liaison between automotive manufacturers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure quality concerns are resolved quickly and effectively. You’ll manage communication, coordinate resources, and drive problem-solving efforts to maintain production quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Issue Management
- Respond promptly to Quality Concern Notifications (QCNs).
- Present issue resolution status to plant management.
- Ensure defective parts are quarantined or returned and certified stock is used on the line.
- Verify clean cutoffs for suspect parts, including those in transit.
- Supplier Coordination
- Serve as the main interface with manufacturer and supplier quality teams.
- Understand supplier manufacturing processes and design responsibilities.
- Facilitate supplier visits and deploy corporate resources as needed.
- Follow up on 8D reports and extraordinary actions to ensure timely completion.
- Investigation & Problem Solving
- Support Incoming Quality and PVT teams during investigations.
- Participate in VRT, FCPA, and other quality meetings.
- Conduct audits for ECB issues and assembly plant rejects.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma, Shainin).
- Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate records of issue status and communicate updates through PCA.
- Handle Stage 1 disputes and attend binning meetings.
- Support warranty returns and ensure parts are shipped and tracked properly.
Qualifications
- Education: BS in Engineering or equivalent STEM degree.
- Experience: 2–5 years in quality, manufacturing, or engineering roles.
Preferred Skills
- Strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of injection molding, wiring harnesses, and vehicle electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints.
- Familiarity with testing, validation software, and quality defect analysis.
- Problem-solving certifications (Black Belt, Green Belt, 8D, etc.) are a plus.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and adapting to changing priorities.
- Willingness to travel and work on-site.
