About the Role
Position Summary
The Automation Engineer serves as a Plant Engineering Process Coach, supporting safe, efficient, and high?quality production operations. The role bridges operational needs with engineering solutions, ensures equipment uptime, and leads continuous improvement across safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities

  • Apply standard manufacturing operating systems consistently.
  • Ensure production lines run safely, efficiently, and meeting quality and rate targets.
  • Support, coach, and develop Team Leaders and Team Members.
  • Handle basic supervisory administration and documentation.
  • Assign skilled trades and engineering resources for equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in MOS meetings and create/resolve Maximo 4Ds for equipment issues.
  • Identify spare parts needs and develop/update preventive maintenance job plans.
  • Promote continuous improvement in quality, cost, and plant performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Facilitate start?up and shift?to?shift meetings.
  • Analyze constraints and coordinate actions to eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Review PM activities and verify spare parts availability.
  • Track department safety metrics and drive improvements.
  • Support SQDCPME (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Maintenance, Environment) processes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Siemens systems, PLC logic, electrical engineering, and 3D modeling.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience assigning work to a unionized hourly workforce.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem?solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and lead through conflict.
  • Knowledge of FIS and Maximo.
  • Understanding of both production and maintenance environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Management.
  • 3–5 years automotive experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and constraint management.
  • Safety and quality experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Prior leadership experience with unionized teams.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate Degree
