Epitec is seeking an experienced Designer to join our client in the Consumer Appliance industry. As a Designer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting a fast-paced prototype shop environment, transforming CAD data and design concepts into high-quality physical models.

  • This is an ongoing W2 contract

  • This is an onsite position in Benton Harbor, MI

? Key Responsibilities

  • Build high?quality prototypes and models from CAD data, drawings, and design specifications using wood, metal, plastics, foams, and rapid prototyping methods
  • Create small? and large?scale models, ensuring proper fit, function, finish, and durability (including for domestic and international shipping)
  • Operate and maintain model shop equipment including CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, mills, lathes, and printers
  • Perform CNC machining on plastics, foams, acrylics, and similar materials with a focus on precision and repeatability
  • Assemble prototypes using joining, molding, trimming, fastening, sanding, painting, and finishing techniques
  • Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and shop personnel to translate concepts into physical models
  • Inspect and test finished prototypes to ensure quality, accuracy, and functionality
  • Maintain materials inventory and support ordering, storage, and organization of shop supplies
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, including PPE usage and safe material handling
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast?paced environment

? Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a fast?paced, multidisciplinary prototype or model shop environment
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling and CAD software, including Creo, SolidWorks, and/or Rhino
  • Experience using Creo CAM, SolidWorks, and SurfCam (preferred)
  • Hands?on experience with CNC machining, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and fabrication tools
  • Strong understanding of industrial design principles and model?making practices
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and CAD data
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Some college education required

? Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience incorporating basic electrical components or simple electronics into prototypes
  • Advanced surface finishing skills (painting, polishing, detailing)
  • Experience building shipping?ready prototypes for client presentations or evaluations

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working on your feet in a hands?on shop environment
  • Manual dexterity for precision assembly and finishing work
