Job Description:
We are seeking a Project Lead – Automotive Specialist to support prototype axle builds and performance testing within an automotive new-product development environment.
In this role, you will coordinate prototype build events from planning through completion, making sure components arrive on time, builds stay on schedule, testing is completed, and post-test teardown activities receive engineering sign-off.
This is a great opportunity for someone with project management experience and a mechanical or automotive background who enjoys coordinating engineering, suppliers, testing teams, and shop personnel.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate prototype axle system builds and testing.
- Develop project plans covering build quantities, complexity, schedules, and timing.
- Coordinate component and prototype part availability for upcoming builds.
- Place and track parts orders using internal purchasing systems.
- Work closely with Design & Release Engineers, suppliers, shop personnel, and testing teams.
- Track build progress and ensure required engineering sign-offs are completed.
- Identify project issues, assign owners, and drive open items through resolution.
- Maintain short- and long-term forecasts for axle system testing.
- Coordinate test-part delivery and monitor testing progress.
- Help resolve roadblocks that could impact build or testing schedules.
- Organize components following testing for teardown and engineering review.
- Track post-test teardown activities through final engineering approval.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Previous project management or project coordination experience.
- Experience working with mechanical components, prototype builds, manufacturing/build processes, or component testing.
- Understanding of performance testing or engineering test processes.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple teams, priorities, deadlines, and open issues.
- Comfortable working fully onsite in Livonia, MI.
