Title: Dev/Research Engineer 1
Location: Tucson, AZ (On-Site Full Time)
Duration: 12-month ongoing contract/option to go internal
Pay Rate: $28hr-33hr with/without benefit inclusions
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and analytical Development/Research Engineer to join our team at Caterpillar’s Tucson Proving Ground. This role is ideal for early-career engineers eager to apply their technical skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on mining and construction equipment testing and validation.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute testing of mining and construction equipment and technology.
- Validate that new and updated products meet engineering requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operators to troubleshoot and improve machine systems.
- Develop project plans, write work instructions, and manage machine builds and modifications.
- Conduct on-machine testing, analyze results, and prepare technical reports.
- Use engineering systems to access drawings, specifications, and models.
- Operate mining equipment and learn maintenance fundamentals through on-the-job training.
- Contribute to continuous improvement (CI) initiatives in safety, quality, and cost.
Education & Experience
- Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s also considered; 2-year degrees not accepted)
- Experience: 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience
Top Skills Required
- Proficiency with MS Office and engineering software (Excel, Tableau, DATK)
- Ability to work in Tucson’s climate and withstand outdoor conditions
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems and testing
Additional Technical Skills (Preferred)
- Familiarity with SuperComm 2, Cadet, Caterpillar Electronic Technician, CANape
- Electrical system troubleshooting
- Experience with new product validation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
