Summary
John Deere is seeking a 3rd Shift Weld / Manufacturing Engineer to support overnight fabrication operations at Davenport Works. This role is critical to keeping production running during third shift by providing hands-on engineering and technical support across manual and robotic welding operations.
This is a highly execution-focused role supporting operators, maintenance, and salaried support staff. The ideal candidate will be comfortable troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and processes in real time, navigating ambiguous situations, and working independently during off-shift hours.
Key Responsibilities
Production Support
- Support fabrication production during third shift operations
- Provide hands-on assistance to operators, maintenance personnel, and support staff
- Ensure production continuity and rapid issue resolution during overnight hours
- Provide weekend support as required based on production needs
Welding Systems & Process Support
- Support manual and robotic welding systems (Fanuc experience preferred)
- Troubleshoot robot weld stations, manual weld stations, and welding fixtures
- Assist with execution of new and existing manufacturing processes
- Read and interpret manufacturing prints, including GD&T
Manufacturing Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot and support MES systems within a fabrication environment
- Support Continuous Improvement, SERA, repair, and process documentation efforts
- Develop, update, and document manufacturing and welding processes
- Maintain clear documentation of issues, resolutions, and process changes
Project & Technical Support
- Support project development, documentation, and implementation as time permits
- Responsibilities may expand into controls work or data science initiatives based on skillset and business needs
- Follow up on communications, questions, and work tickets to closure
Required Skills & Experience
Top Skillsets
- Manual and robotic welding systems experience (Fanuc preferred)
- Manufacturing Engineering experience in a fabrication environment
- MES systems troubleshooting and production support
- Automated and manual process troubleshooting
Qualifications

Ability to troubleshoot welding fixtures, automated equipment, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to document work and develop clear process documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
