Accounting Control Specialist
W2 Contract – 35 Hours Per Week
8am-3:30PM
Providence, RI – Hybrid Schedule
$40/hr

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing, researching, and approving complex general ledger journal entries.
  • Supporting state agencies with accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and federal grant management.
  • Validating biweekly payroll, taxes, deductions, and employee benefit expenses.
  • Managing payroll garnishments and ensuring confidential handling of employee information.
  • Performing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close activities.
  • Reconciling accounts and analyzing financial data to ensure accuracy and proper classification of transactions.
  • Monitoring accounts receivable, accounts payable, accruals, assets, liabilities, and interagency transactions.
  • Preparing financial reports, expenditure analyses, forecasts, and statistical reports for management.
  • Providing guidance and customer service to agency finance staff and state officials.
  • Supervising financial staff and overseeing financial management programs when assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in accounting, finance, fiscal management, or business management in either the public or private sector.

Substitutions

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • A Bachelor’s degree plus an active CPA license may also substitute for the experience requirement.

  • Governmental accounting and budgeting principles.
