AI Application Developer – Generative & Agentic AI

Position Overview
We are seeking an AI Application Developer to support the development, deployment, and ongoing operation of Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions. This position will work closely with AI technical leadership to develop Python-based AI applications, build integrations, support Large Language Model (LLM) environments, maintain Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, and help manage AI infrastructure.
This is a hands-on development role requiring experience with Python, containerized applications, AI/LLM technologies, application deployment, and version control. The position is 100% onsite in Montgomery, AL. Remote work is not available.
Key Responsibilities
AI Application Development & Testing
- Develop, maintain, and test agentic AI tools using Python as the primary programming language.
- Assist with the development and implementation of AI system architecture.
- Build and maintain MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to support AI application integrations.
- Develop and maintain additional Generative AI and AI-enabled applications.
- Participate in application testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Deployment, Operations & Maintenance
- Deploy, operate, and maintain AI applications within production environments.
- Support applications running within Docker containers.
- Assist with deployment and maintenance of Large Language Models (LLMs) using vLLM in containerized environments.
- Support and maintain Open WebUI instances and configurations.
- Provide ongoing application support to maintain reliability and operational stability.
RAG, Documentation & Training
- Support and maintain AI knowledge bases used for Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Develop technical documentation, user guides, and training materials for AI applications.
- Assist with in-person and recorded user training sessions.
- Help educate users on the effective use of internally developed AI tools.
AI Infrastructure & Server Support
- Assist technical leadership with server administration activities supporting AI applications and infrastructure.
- Support AI model testing and fine-tuning activities.
- Monitor the health and performance of AI infrastructure components.
- Troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues as needed.
Security & Compliance
- Collaborate with information security teams to ensure developed code and Docker images are reviewed for vulnerabilities.
- Assist with remediation of identified security vulnerabilities.
- Ensure AI applications follow organizational security standards and applicable HIPAA and healthcare data privacy requirements.
Development Practices
- Participate in Agile development and team collaboration activities.
- Maintain source code and technical documentation using Git, Azure DevOps, and other approved version-control tools.
- Support additional AI-related development and implementation initiatives as needed.
Key Qualifications
- Strong hands-on Python development experience.
- Experience developing or supporting Generative AI, Agentic AI, or LLM-based applications.
- Experience working with Docker and containerized applications.
- Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI application architecture.
- Experience with or knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol).
- Experience with RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) solutions and knowledge bases.
- Familiarity with vLLM and/or LLM deployment environments.
- Familiarity with Open WebUI is preferred.
- Experience with Git and Azure DevOps or comparable development/version-control platforms.
- Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting production applications.
- Ability to create clear technical documentation and user training materials.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and collaborative development skills.
- Understanding of secure software development practices and vulnerability remediation.
- Healthcare, HIPAA, or other regulated-data environment experience is beneficial.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on developer who combines strong Python development skills with practical experience building and supporting modern Generative AI and Agentic AI applications. Experience with MCP, RAG, Docker, LLM deployment, vLLM, Git/Azure DevOps, and AI infrastructure would align especially well with this position.
