Summary

Our client is seeking a Communications Leader III to support workplace accessibility initiatives as a Virtual Visual Interpreter. This role plays a meaningful part in enabling employees who are blind or have low vision to navigate their work environment and complete professional tasks with greater independence.

Through real-time visual interpretation and descriptive communication, this position transforms visual information into clear, objective audio descriptions that support day-to-day workplace activities.

This role is ideal for a highly articulate communicator with strong observational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for accessibility, inclusion, and human-centered support.


Key Responsibilities

Real-Time Visual Interpretation

  • Provide accurate, unbiased audio descriptions of physical environments, documents, screens, and objects
  • Translate complex visual information into clear, concise verbal descriptions

Navigation & Spatial Guidance

  • Assist employees in navigating physical and digital environments using directional guidance
  • Describe surroundings in real time via video feed, including potential safety considerations

Workplace Support

  • Read and interpret written materials such as signage, forms, and labels
  • Assist with identifying objects, layouts, and people in workplace settings

Technical & System Support

  • Guide users through software navigation and office equipment use (printers, scanners, etc.)
  • Assist with camera positioning and troubleshooting during sessions

Communication & User Support

  • Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication at all times
  • Adapt communication style to meet individual user preferences and needs

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Document session notes and identify accessibility or technical issues
  • Participate in training and support continuous improvement initiatives

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to describe complex visual information clearly and objectively
  • Strong attention to detail and visual analysis skills
  • Ability to multitask while communicating and processing information in real time
  • Strong spatial awareness and directional language usage
  • Experience with video platforms, screen sharing tools, and remote technologies
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for software and hardware
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in sensitive environments
  • Reliable internet connection with a professional, distraction-free workspace

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in accessibility, disability services, social work, or education
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies (VoiceOver, JAWS, NVDA, etc.)
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or low vision
  • Customer service, caregiving, coaching, or virtual support experience
  • Knowledge of visual arts, design, or spatial environments
