Job Summary

This role is for a Component Development Technician supporting the Component Products Department within AT&S at Caterpillar. The technician will plan, execute, and report on development and validation testing of electrical and electronic components. Work is primarily hands?on at the circuit board level in an electronics lab environment.

The role requires strong lab skills, adherence to safety guidelines, and close collaboration with technicians and engineers. The environment is fast?paced, and the technician will be responsible for managing day?to?day testing activities to meet project timelines.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and report results of testing on electrical/electronic components
  • Perform performance, electrical, environmental, and durability testing
  • Work hands?on in the electronics lab at the circuit board level
  • Use lab equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering tools, and hand tools
  • Add wires, swap components, and scrape/add traces as part of lab work
  • Support building and maintaining load boxes (approximately 5–10% of the role)
  • Follow lab safety procedures, PPE requirements, and safe work practices
  • Collaborate with technicians and engineering staff to meet testing objectives
  • Support other groups when additional technical help is needed
  • Document test results and communicate findings clearly
  • Provide input on process and design improvements as needed
  • Manage daily schedules to align deliverables with division needs

Years of Experience and Education

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of hands?on technical experience is key
  • If no associate degree, ideally 5+ years of experience
  • Technician?focused background preferred

Education (one of the following)

  • 2?year Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Diesel Power, or related field plus experience
  • 4?year Engineering Technology degree
  • High school diploma or GED with 8+ years of technical experience
