Job Title: Controls Engineer – Autonomous Systems
Location: Tucson, AZ (On-Site)
Shift: 2nd Shift (Monday–Thursday, 1:30 PM – 12:00 AM)
Duration: 24 Months
Pay: $47 – $50 an hr
Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support autonomous vehicle integration and validation efforts in a real-world testing environment. This role focuses on hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis for autonomous systems, working closely with cross-functional engineering and software development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update test and validation plans for autonomous vehicle systems
- Execute hands-on testing on large machinery and autonomous equipment
- Analyze test data to identify trends, issues, and performance improvements
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software-related system issues
- Document test results, defects, and findings, and provide recommendations
- Collaborate with software developers and engineering teams to resolve issues
- Support system validation activities and ensure reliability in real-world conditions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- 2–4 years of relevant experience (internships and project work considered)
- Strong troubleshooting skills in complex systems
- Solid problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Experience working with computer systems (Windows environment)
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, schematics, and test data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Linux or Ubuntu operating systems
- Familiarity with test planning and documentation processes
- Understanding of electrical schematics and control systems
- Exposure to autonomous systems (perception, planning, positioning)
Work Environment
- On-site testing environment with exposure to outdoor conditions (heat, dust, industrial setting)
- Combination of office work and field/test site support
- Collaboration with a large engineering team, including operators and remote software teams
