Epitec is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for an opportunity with our automotive client in Detroit, MI. As a Controls Engineer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of assembly line equipment by leading controls engineering support, resolving production issues, and implementing solutions.

  • This is an ongoing W2 contract with potential for conversion
  • This is an onsite position in Detroit, MI
  • This role offers $61.25/hour, 10 days PTO, medical/retirement contributions (if desired)
  • There are two shifts available: 
    • Mon – Fri: 11pm – 7am
    • Mon – Fri: 3pm – 11pm

Top Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead Controls Engineering contact supporting new and existing assembly equipment
  • Implement, support, and troubleshoot PLC, CNC, and HMI hardware and software
  • Implement and support device-level networks, servos, and variable frequency drives
  • Support manufacturing monitoring systems and interface with higher-level systems
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to improve equipment KPIs and line performance
  • Apply controls engineering solutions to optimize manufacturing processes
  • Specify, manage, and support controls design for new equipment procurement
  • Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing operations
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and engineering groups
  • Support daily production issues and participate in weekend production coverage rotation

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) or 8 years of relevant experience
  • 5–7 years of experience with manufacturing equipment hardware and software design
  • Strong experience with PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, drives, and safety systems
  • Knowledge of Siemens PLCs, drives, servos, and associated software
  • Experience with industrial networks and database operations
  • Proficient with PC hardware and Windows-based software
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in team-based environments
  • Flexibility to support off-shifts and weekend production coverage
  • Familiarity with Daimler manufacturing processes preferred
