Epitec is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our automotive client’s team in Detroit, MI. As a Controls Engineer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring production lines stay up and running by quickly diagnosing and fixing controls and automation issues.
- This is a 2-year W2 contract with potential for conversion/extension
- This is an onsite position in Detroit, MI
- This position offers $61.25/hour, 10 days PTO, medical/retirement contributions (if desired)
Top Responsibilities:
- Support production lines by troubleshooting and modifying PLC/controls logic (Siemens-focused) to keep equipment running
- Program and maintain PLC, CNC, and HMI systems for automated manufacturing equipment
- Design and implement control systems for new and existing equipment and processes
- Diagnose and resolve equipment downtime issues, including emergency support for unplanned stoppages
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and maintenance teams to fix complex failures
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and other devices into automated systems
- Test, debug, and validate control systems to ensure proper performance and throughput
- Drive continuous improvement projects tied to KPIs (efficiency, uptime, quality)
- Maintain documentation (logic, wiring diagrams, system layouts) and ensure safety compliance
Top Qualifications:
- Strong PLC programming experience (Siemens preferred; Allen Bradley acceptable)
- Hands-on experience with HMI systems and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
- Solid understanding of electrical schematics, instrumentation, and control systems
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment
- Ability to support robot logic and willingness to adjust Kuka robot positions as needed
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment
- Comfortable supporting off-shift operations (midnight shift) and responding to urgent issues
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of controls/automation experience in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with CAD tools and standard PC/software tools is a plus
