Overview

Epitec is seeking to add a Controls Engineer to support a high-volume Detroit manufacturing plant environment. This is a hands-on, shop-floor-focused role supporting production uptime, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives within a Siemens-based controls environment.


Location

  • Detroit, MI-Fully Onsite (No remote)


Shift

  • 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM (2nd Shift)

  • Weekend rotation (1 out of every 3 weekends)

  • Candidates expected to arrive early for shift handoff meetings


Contract Details

  • W2 Contract – Long-Term


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine downtime issues on production floor

  • Support PLC, CNC, HMI, and robot control systems

  • Diagnose faults using logic, electrical drawings, and system data

  • Assist skilled trades with machine recovery and repair

  • Maintain production throughput and equipment performance

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (10%)

  • Collaborate with cross-functional manufacturing and maintenance teams

  • Execute robot programming updates (Fanuc/Kuka)

  • Maintain controls documentation and reporting


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related

  • 5–7+ years of controls engineering or industrial automation experience

  • Strong PLC, CNC, and HMI troubleshooting experience

  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing shop-floor environments

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

  • Experience supporting machine faults, calibration, and logic issues


Preferred Qualifications

  • Siemens controls ecosystem expertise (S7-1500, Step 7, PCU-50 HMI)

  • Fanuc or Kuka robot programming

  • Allen Bradley PLC experience

  • Vision systems (Cognex)

  • AutoCAD or similar tools

  • Networking / database familiarity

  1. Hands-on manufacturing floor controls experience

  2. Siemens PLC expertise (S7-1500 / Step 7)

  3. Equipment calibration & troubleshooting (motors, sensors, robotics)


Day-to-Day Breakdown

  • Respond to machine faults and downtime events

  • Diagnose issues using PLC logic and system data

  • Work within existing code (not building from scratch)

  • Support camera and vision systems

  • Collaborate with maintenance & production teams
