Job Details for Controls Engineer 5
Seeking a Controls Engineer for Caterpillar’s Performance and Controls team supporting rigid frame trucks (models 770, 798). This role is on-site and involves developing control systems, simulation models, and validation plans for autonomous and base machine programs to improve efficiency and reduce on-machine time.

Job Summary For Controls Engineer 5
The Controls Engineer will lead technical efforts at machine level, collaborating across multiple teams to develop and validate control systems for Caterpillar’s large mining trucks. Responsibilities include simulation, testing, and optimization of autonomous and base machine programs, ensuring efficiency and compliance with Caterpillar standards.
Responsibilities For Controls Engineer 5
- Develop simulation models for autonomous software integration.
- Create strategic test plans to minimize redundant testing across machines.
- Support controls and software validation activities for various programs.
- Participate in validation workshops and provide data collection requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Autonomous product team, Proving Grounds, and Cat Technology teams.
Required Experience For Controls Engineer 5
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years in machine performance, controls, testing, or simulation.
- Previous Caterpillar experience highly preferred.
- Internships accepted as supplemental experience.
Comparable roles: Machine performance engineer, Controls engineer, Simulation engineer.
Top 3 Skills
- Controls software development and/or testing experience.
- Machine/vehicle-level engineering experience (performance, controls, testing, or simulation).
- Familiarity with mining truck operation and application.
