Epitec is seeking to hire a Senior Program Safety & Reliability Engineer III to support a cutting-edge aerospace program focused on high-risk test and development operations. This role will serve as an embedded safety leader, partnering directly with engineering, test, and operations teams to ensure hazard identification, mitigation, and safe execution across the full program lifecycle.

Job Description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the embedded senior program safety engineer supporting program execution from design through testing

  • Implement and maintain safety programs and hazard control practices across operations

  • Lead early hazard identification and drive hazards through evaluation, mitigation, verification, and closure

  • Provide subject matter expertise in design reviews, test readiness reviews, and operational planning

  • Support safety and reliability assessments for developmental systems, including high-risk and non-routine operations

  • Perform safety consultation services including planning, execution, and reporting of assessments

  • Support incident response and emergency situations (spills, injuries, abnormal test conditions, equipment upsets)

  • Partner closely with corporate EHS teams to ensure regulatory compliance

  • Prepare technical reports, safety assessments, readiness summaries, and investigation findings

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with internal safety processes and procedures


Key Responsibilities / Skills

  • Support onboarding and safety indoctrination of program personnel

  • Assist with waste management (hazardous, non-hazardous, recycling)

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development

  • Develop and deliver safety and EHS training programs

  • Serve as program focal point for safety and environmental concerns

  • Conduct continuous process improvement and preventative action efforts

  • Lead development and closure of JHAs and risk assessments

  • Provide safety input for engineering, production, and facility modifications

  • Perform audits and operational assessments

  • Support Management of Change (MOC), non-routine process approvals, and readiness reviews

  • Lead or support emergency response planning and execution


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering, safety, environmental science, or related technical field

  • 10+ years experience in safety, EHS, process safety, reliability engineering, or operational risk

  • 5+ years experience in high-risk environments (aerospace, manufacturing, chemical, pilot plant, or test ops)

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and regulatory compliance frameworks

  • Experience with:

    • Hazard assessments and JHAs

    • Risk analysis and corrective/preventive actions

    • Incident investigation and root cause analysis

  • Experience supporting design reviews, test reviews, and non-routine operations

  • Strong technical writing skills (reports, procedures, assessments)

  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high-risk environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years total experience in safety or reliability engineering

  • 7+ years in aerospace or high-risk operational environments

  • Experience supporting:

    • High-risk test campaigns or commissioning/startup environments

    • 24/7 operations

  • Strong experience with:

    • Management of Change (MOC)

    • Test readiness & go/no-go reviews

    • Emergency response planning

  • Experience with systems involving:

    • High-temperature operations

    • High-power electrical systems

    • Vacuum systems

    • Compressed gases

    • Hazardous chemicals

  • Strong incident response capability for:

    • Gas releases, thermal events, abnormal operations

  • Experience working as an embedded safety lead with engineering teams

  • Familiarity with Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)

  • Certifications preferred: ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM

  • Advanced degree in relevant field
