Engineer Facility Manager

? $120,000–$130,000 base + 12% annual bonus
The Role
We are seeking a strategic, hands?on Engineer Facility Manager to lead Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities operations at a high?volume automotive manufacturing facility in Chicago, IL. This role is responsible for equipment reliability, process optimization, and facility infrastructure while supporting safe, efficient, and high?quality production.
This position is on?site and reports directly to the Plant Manager as part of the Plant Operations leadership team.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Facilities Oversight
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities teams.
- Ensure manufacturing equipment, tooling, and facility infrastructure are effectively maintained and optimized.
- Oversee building systems, utilities, grounds, and janitorial services.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a Safety?First culture across all engineering and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, emergency evacuation guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous reduction and elimination of incidents and safety risks.
Department & People Management
- Manage departmental staffing, budgets, KOIs, and resource planning.
- Oversee quoting activities with accurate and timely cost estimates.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and establish clear roles and expectations.
- Develop engineering and maintenance capabilities through training, coaching, and cross?functional collaboration.
Maintenance & Operations
- Ensure execution of preventive maintenance programs, equipment readiness, and operational drills.
- Maintain technical skill depth to support current and future production requirements.
Launch Readiness & Program Execution
- Lead cross?functional teams through Launch Readiness processes per BOS procedures.
- Coordinate with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, Materials, Quality, Program Management, and Product Engineering.
- Validate deliverables through hands?on reviews and physical verification.
- Support new program launches including tooling, capital planning, equipment setup/debug, and process validation.
Engineering Change Management
- Oversee Engineering Change Management (ECM) for new and existing programs.
- Ensure alignment across quoting, costing, planning, and execution.
Product & Process Development
- Drive product and process development to meet safety, quality, cost, timing, and performance targets.
- Apply lessons learned to strengthen future launch readiness.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support CI initiatives focused on efficiency, reliability, throughput, and cost reduction.
- Promote adoption of new technologies, tools, and best practices.
Documentation & Additional Duties
- Ensure accurate documentation of engineering, maintenance, and facility activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of management experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, preferably JIT assembly and sequencing.
- Experience overseeing a CMMS and driving performance results.
- Strong working knowledge of AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and technical problem?solving skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Experience with motion and time studies (MOST, MOPATs, Timer?Pro).
- Hands?on experience with industrial automation (robotics, conveyors, DC fastening, automated equipment).
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to move freely between office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to perform computer?based work for extended periods.
- Up to 20% travel required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
