Position Summary:
The Engineering Technician I provides support for materials engineering testing and lab operations. This role involves performing tests using established procedures for process control and Paint Lab performance testing, conducting routine analysis, and assisting with problem identification, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and validation test plan development. The technician will also provide guidance on test procedures, status, and results to engineers and support personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain lab equipment to perform routine materials engineering tests.
- Assist test customers in drafting test plans/matrices using Excel and standard test offerings.
- Maintain testing systems and manage lab work queues to ensure timely completion of tests.
- Adjust priorities based on urgent requests and monitor improvements for lab operations.
- Create lab operations test schedules, SOPs, and daily protocols.
- Ensure proper operation of all mechanical and chemical test equipment for painted parts.
- Support paint lab activities and failure analysis by preparing parts, ordering supplies, and executing standard paint tests.
- Communicate and maintain engineering data in SharePoint and other platforms.
- Provide explanations of testing processes during lab tours and virtual communications (Teams, IM, email).
- Perform data entry, specimen preparation, equipment setup, and testing per documented procedures.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities and adhere to strict schedules for time-sensitive tasks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manipulate data, text, images, tables, and apply general formatting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new topics with limited oversight.
- Knowledge of lab testing equipment and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in a STEM/engineering technology field, or actively pursuing such a degree.
