Location: Chicago, IL
Schedule: Monday through Friday, fully onsite
Contract Length: 12 months
Compensation: $88.00 to $94.00 per hour (W2)

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join a large enterprise technology team in Chicago. This role requires a hands-on testing professional who can own test strategy, lead automation efforts, and represent quality engineering in design and solutioning discussions. This position is fully onsite and open only to local Chicago-area candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and author test approaches, test strategies, and test plans
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Java
  • Build and execute automated API, integration, and system-level test cases
  • Perform full-stack testing across backend and frontend systems
  • Participate in code reviews and pull request reviews with development teams
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and architects
  • Work with offshore teams to ensure delivery of high-quality, well-tested features
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
  • Support performance testing efforts (JMeter experience is a plus)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in software testing or test automation
  • Strong Java-based automation experience at the framework level
  • Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or similar tools
  • Strong REST API testing experience
  • SQL experience for test data validation
  • Proven experience writing and owning test documentation, including strategies and plans
  • Experience working in Agile development environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • UI automation experience using Playwright
  • Performance testing experience with JMeter
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git
  • AWS or cloud technology exposure
  • Microservices architecture experience
  • Python experience

Soft Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable representing QA in technical and design discussions
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Able to work independently in fast-paced, complex environments

  • Only local Chicago-area or nearby suburb candidates will be considered
