Role: Mechanical Designer
Location: Southfield, MI
Logistics: Onsite 4 days, 1 day remote Summary:
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer with expertise in Process Simulation for Body-in-White (BIW) tooling fixtures. This role involves developing and validating robotic simulations and mechanical tooling designs to support automotive body shop operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct feasibility studies and process engineering for BIW tooling.
- Define robotic and human operations in 3D environments.
- Select and place equipment (robots, conveyors, tools).
- Validate tooling feasibility and develop 3D layouts.
- Simulate robot movements to verify cycle time and reachability.
- Develop offline robot programs (Comau, Kuka, ABB, Fanuc).
- Configure Robot Controller Simulation (RCS) and validate cycle times.
- Optimize weld distribution and apply robot signal logic.
- Prepare CAD models and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and support customer reviews.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 4–5+ years in process simulation and mechanical design.
- Proficient in Siemens Process Simulate software.
- Experience with CAD tools (NX, AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with major robot brands (Comau, ABB, Kuka, Fanuc).
- Strong understanding of BIW systems and auto assembly strategies.
- Willingness to travel (5–20%) for project needs.
- Knowledge of safety standards (OSHA, NIOSH) and robot-PLC IO communication.
- Hands-on experience with automation technologies (Spot Welding, Arc Welding, Sealer/Dispense, etc.).
