Job Summary
The Electric Drive Test Engineer supports the testing, validation, and failure analysis of electric drive components and systems in a laboratory environment. This role is responsible for conducting performance and durability testing, investigating product failures, and supporting root cause analysis activities. The position offers hands-on exposure to electrification technologies while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams in product development, controls, simulation, and system validation.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing of electric drive components and systems, including performance, durability, and validation testing.
- Conduct hands-on inspections and failure investigations of motors, generators, and related electrical systems.
- Execute electrical checks, visual inspections, x-ray reviews, material analysis, and fluid analysis to support failure investigations.
- Analyze test results and identify root causes of component or system failures.
- Document testing activities, inspection findings, and engineering recommendations in a clear and organized manner.
- Collaborate with design, controls, simulation, and validation engineers to support product development activities.
- Assist in developing and improving test methods and inspection procedures.
- Maintain safe work practices while operating laboratory equipment and performing testing activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product reliability, quality, and performance.
- Work closely with experienced engineers and mentors to expand technical knowledge in motor and generator systems.
Years of Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 1-2 years of relevant engineering experience in testing, validation, product development, or failure analysis.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of some experience requirements.
- Candidates with an Associate degree and 4-5 years of relevant technical experience may also be considered.
Skills Required
- Electro-mechanical testing and validation experience.
- Product development or engineering development experience.
- Failure analysis and root cause investigation skills.
- Understanding of electric motors, generators, or electric drive systems.
- Ability to interpret and analyze test data and inspection results.
- Experience working in laboratory or test environments.
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional engineering teams.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with appropriate PPE and safety requirements.
