Job Title: Mechanical Test Engineer
Contract Duration: 12 months, possible extension
Location: Redmond, WA
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Hourly Rate: $65 – $70, negotiable

Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Test Engineer to join our multidisciplinary test team focused on advancing the state of the art in wearable and consumer electronic devices. The ideal candidate will define, implement, and execute mechanical verification methodologies, develop novel testing protocols, and architect test systems for research and new product designs. This role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and hands-on experience with test infrastructure, fixture design, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and execute mechanical verification methodologies for systems and new product designs.
  • Develop and drive implementation of scalable test infrastructure and custom test fixtures.
  • Architect and document novel testing protocols for research hardware and consumer electronics.
  • Perform verification testing across thermal, vibration, mechanical stress, optics, and other domains.
  • Manage internal and external resources for test setup development and execution.
  • Collaborate with research scientists, hardware engineers, and partner engineering teams to define testing requirements and metrics.
  • Support system bring-up, debug activities, and communicate test plans and results clearly.
  • Track coverage metrics, document and report test results, and manage bugs encountered.
  • Conduct statistical data analysis and post-processing of test data.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical qualification and verification of small form factor, electromechanical consumer electronic devices.
  • Demonstrated experience developing novel testing methods.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design and modeling (SolidWorks, NX).
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom test fixtures.
  • Strong skills in test procedure and process creation.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or equivalent for test automation and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams to define testing requirements and drive hardware maturity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with system and subsystem mechanical verification.
  • Experience specifying and integrating instrumentation and motion control systems (motors, drivers, encoders, sensors).
  • Knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes and assembly of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience with off-the-shelf mechanical test solutions (i.e. Instron test systems).
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical data analysis and measurement system analysis.
  • Experience driving implementation of test automation.
  • Knowledge of Kinematics and body movements.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; Masters degree preferred.

Must Have Skills

  1. Mechanical Qualification & Verification Experience
    • 5+ years working with small form factor, electromechanical consumer electronic devices.
  2. 3D CAD Design & Modeling Proficiency
    • SolidWorks, NX, or similar tools for designing and modeling.
  3. Test Automation & Data Analysis
    • Hands-on experience with Python, Matlab, or equivalent for automating tests and analyzing data.

    • Experience specifying/integrating motors, drivers, encoders, sensors.
