Pay Rate: $42.00 – 45.00/hr. with benefit inclusions
Job Summary
The Wireless Network Validation Engineer will focus on testing and validating wireless technologies for autonomous and remote-control machine applications. Technologies include Wi-Fi, private LTE, and private 5G cellular systems. This dynamic role involves both office-based and outdoor testing, working directly with wireless OEMs and supporting customer troubleshooting. The position bridges IT and machine technology, contributing to the performance and reliability of advanced equipment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outdoor wireless drive testing at designated test tracks
- Configure and troubleshoot wireless systems, including mounting access points on trailers
- Collaborate with vendors (Cisco, Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens) to tune products for application needs
- Analyze packet captures using Wireshark and assess RF spectrum performance
- Support customer troubleshooting efforts, including potential visits to mining sites
- Work closely with a team of engineers to execute test plans and validate wireless solutions
- Report to a work director and technical lead within a team of 8–10 local members and 5 remote members
- Travel up to 25% (primarily domestic) to customer sites
Years of Experience and Education
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Master’s degree accepted
- Internships: Not accepted as qualifying experience
- Relevant Fields: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering
Skills Required
Top 3 Skills
- Configuration and troubleshooting of outdoor wireless systems (beyond basic cellular drive testing)
- Proficiency with Wireshark and packet capture analysis
- Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum
Additional Technical Skills
- 5–7 years of route/switch core network experience
- Linux experience (preferred)
- Cisco Wireless LAN Controller experience (desired)
- Mechanical aptitude (e.g., installing outdoor access points)
- Experience with autonomous or remote-control systems (a plus)
Soft Skills
- Effective communication with internal teams, vendors, and customers
