Summary

Our client, a Fortune 100 global manufacturing company, is seeking a Packaging Engineer 1 to support packaging operations at a large-scale distribution center in Champaign, Illinois.

This role focuses on packaging specification development, automation-ready packaging solutions, and cross?functional collaboration across operations, supply chain, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering foundation, effective communication skills, and the ability to work hands-on in a distribution and shop-floor environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to global manufacturing operations, collaborate with experienced engineering teams, and contribute to packaging standardization and process improvements across multiple facilities.


Key Responsibilities

Packaging Engineering & Operations

  • Develop and specify packaging solutions for high?volume material, including corrugated carton designs

  • Support new part setup and packaging configuration for distribution center operations

  • Provide packaging solutions that support robotic and automated material handling systems

  • Ensure quality and consistency of indirect packaging materials

  • Maintain and support kit packaging setups and packaging standards

Cross?Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with operations, systems, supply chain, and shop floor teams

  • Work directly with floor employees to improve packaging safety, quality, and efficiency

  • Participate in project teams and report progress to engineering and operations leadership

  • Drive global packaging alignment across multiple manufacturing and distribution facilities


Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Supply Chain
    OR relevant industrial or packaging design experience

  • 2+ years of engineering or related experience

  • Internship experience accepted as applicable experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)

Comparable Backgrounds May Include:
Packaging Engineer, Design Engineer, Supply Chain Engineer, Logistics Engineer


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis tools (SQL, Python, SAS, etc.)

  • Experience with 2D/3D design tools (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)

  • Strong workload prioritization skills

Ability to build working relationships across teams and sites
