Plant Engineer – Controls (Contract)
Overview
We are seeking a Plant Engineer – Controls to support a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for improving control systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, and supporting automation and plant operations.

- Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
- Shift: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Pay Rate: $41.60/hr with benefits
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement improvements to control systems using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
- Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving to resolve equipment performance issues
- Coordinate resources to identify root cause and implement corrective actions
- Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, and control systems to minimize downtime
- Monitor cycle times using FIS plant systems
- Program and reprogram PLCs, automation equipment, and robotics for engineering changes
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and automation systems
- Maintain backups for machinery and automation programs
- Assist with integration of controls into FIS, Error Proofing, QWX, IIoT, and QTS systems
- Train manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
- Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments
Required / Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of controls or related manufacturing experience
- PLC experience (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Rexroth)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience with error proofing and Good Manufacturing Practices
- Ability to work with maintenance teams, vendors, and production staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
- Familiarity with UL508A and NFPA79 standards
- Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal experience
- Robotics, automation, and machining controls experience
- Electrical systems knowledge
