Process Engineer (Manufacturing) – Axle Assembly


Overview

Seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support axle assembly manufacturing operations in a high-volume automotive environment. This role focuses on driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity, while ensuring stable and efficient manufacturing processes.

  • Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
  • Shift Time: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (Morning Shift, OT required)
  • Pay Rate: $42.30/hour with benefits 

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing process engineering activities for axle assembly
  • Apply engineering principles to optimize and improve manufacturing processes
  • Lead equipment delivery, installation, and commissioning projects
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, and productivity
  • Conduct process audits to ensure compliance with internal standards
  • Perform ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze root causes of defects and reduce reject rates
  • Identify throughput constraints and implement improvements to meet production targets
  • Create and maintain process documentation (work instructions, process sheets)
  • Lead lean manufacturing and variability reduction initiatives
  • Resolve machining and assembly-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, environmental, and governmental standards

Required / Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience
  • Strong experience with:
    • Process Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis
    • Process Validation / Continuous Improvement
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with automotive components (axle, powertrain, etc.)
  • Knowledge of PPAP, FMEA, DOE, and capability studies (Gauge R&R)
  • Lean Six Sigma experience
  • Project management / equipment launch experience
  • Experience with assembly lines and visual factory concepts
  • Ergonomic analysis experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
