Design & Release Engineer – Trailer Tow Module

? Location: Dearborn, MI (Hybrid: In-office Mon–Thu, Friday as needed)

Position Overview

Epitec is seeking a Design & Release Engineer to join our client’s team in Dearborn, MI. This role focuses on developing innovative trailer tow hardware, software, and systems for next-generation vehicles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of trailer tow hardware/software systems and manage part requirements.

  • Conduct design reviews with internal teams and suppliers.

  • Ensure compliance with FMVSS and other regulatory standards.

  • Oversee packaging of trailer tow modules within vehicle environments.

  • Develop and execute design verification plans (bench, HIL, vehicle testing).

  • Track issues in FEDE and JIRA; manage part releases in WERS.

  • Support program launches, resolve issues, and present status updates to leadership.

  • Collaborate with IVI, body exterior, and vehicle operations teams for integration.

  • Travel to supplier facilities and assembly plants for design reviews and launches.

  • Support warranty analysis and quality improvement initiatives using tools like Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Product Design: Systems design engineering, DFMEA, interface analysis, modeling, validation.

  • Design Release Engineering: Managing complex systems, cost, weight, and part numbers.

  • Process Validation: Testing, validation, and product assessment.

  • Embedded Systems: Understanding complex electronics integration.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years in automotive electrical systems design/testing (hardware, software, systems).

    • Familiarity with vehicle network tools (e.g., CANalyzer).

    • Trailer tow controls experience is a plus.


Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree

  • Hybrid schedule: In-office Monday–Thursday, Friday as needed.

  • Travel required for supplier and plant support.
