Project/Program Manager IT 3 (Senior Project Manager)
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Pay Rate: $53-$57/hour


About the Role

Caterpillar’s Digital division is seeking a high-impact Project/Program Manager to drive clarity, alignment, and execution across application development initiatives. This role partners closely with Engineering, Product, Platform, and Analytics teams to ensure leadership has a clear and consistent view of progress, risks, and priorities.

The ideal candidate is highly structured, detail-oriented, and capable of translating complex, cross-functional inputs into clear, decision-ready insights. This is a fast-paced, matrixed environment requiring strong communication, executive presence, and independent judgment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and communicate development roadmaps, timelines, and priorities
  • Track risks, dependencies, and overall project health across teams
  • Attend development and technical meetings to gather updates, issues, and milestones
  • Synthesize information into clear, cohesive project summaries and executive updates
  • Build professional presentations and dashboards for a variety of stakeholders
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, and leadership teams

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of experience in project/program management within software development environments
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and CI/CD processes
  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, or Python
  • Strong data storytelling and visualization skills
  • Ability to tailor messaging and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • MBA or equivalent business training is a plus

Work Environment

  • Hybrid role – 3 days onsite in Chicago office
  • Monday–Friday, standard first shift
  • Up to 25% travel (potentially to Peoria, IL)
  • Regular collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
