Senior Design Engineer


Overview

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to support product design and development at our Novi Technical Center. This individual will lead design solutions from concept through production, working cross-functionally to deliver high-quality engineering outputs from Program Award through Start of Production.

  • Shift Time: Standard business hours 
  • Pay Rate: Competitive – based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and release 2D/3D product designs using NX CAD
  • Manage design files, studies, and component/assembly drawings (Teamcenter or similar systems)
  • Create parameterized CAD models and detailed drawings for production
  • Apply knowledge of plastic part design and injection molding
  • Ensure timely release of CAD data to meet tooling and program deadlines
  • Lead design development to meet customer performance and manufacturing requirements
  • Identify and resolve design issues throughout development and launch
  • Manage project timelines, tasks, and deliverables to ensure on-time completion
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and suppliers
  • Support engineering change processes and design updates
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions (DFMEA, 8D, 5-Why)
  • Design to cost targets and support cost reduction initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of design engineering experience (automotive preferred)
  • Strong experience with NX CAD
  • Experience in product design and development
  • Ability to communicate design concepts clearly to stakeholders
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel and support work at customer/manufacturing sites

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Teamcenter or PLM/change management systems
  • Experience leading projects or design ownership
  • Knowledge of Lean engineering principles and structured problem-solving tools
  • Experience supporting product launches and engineering changes
