Location: New York, New York
Pay Rate: $75-80 per hour
Overview
We are seeking a UX/Product Designer to help evolve a complex requirements management platform used across hardware and software development programs. The platform enables systems engineers, architects, TPMs, and engineering teams to manage functional and non-functional requirements, maintain traceability between hardware and software components, and oversee change control throughout the product development lifecycle.
This role focuses on transforming highly complex, data-dense workflows into intuitive and scalable user experiences. The ideal candidate thrives in enterprise environments, can independently drive design solutions, and has experience designing tools used by technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Design and improve workflows related to document creation, requirement management, dependency linking, and traceability.
- Redesign complex enterprise interfaces including tables, graphs, hierarchical views, dashboards, and administrative surfaces.
- Simplify large-scale interconnected datasets, making thousands of requirements and relationships easy to navigate and edit.
- Translate feedback from engineers, TPMs, systems architects, and other technical stakeholders into actionable design improvements.
- Define information architecture, filtering mechanisms, bulk actions, error states, and usability enhancements.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs in Figma.
- Produce developer-ready specifications and partner closely with engineering teams through implementation and QA.
- Independently scope design problems, propose solutions, and manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Contribute to and evolve the design system, including reusable components, variants, and interaction patterns.
- Communicate design decisions effectively in a highly collaborative and asynchronous environment.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of UX/Product Design experience with a portfolio demonstrating shipped products.
- Proven experience designing data-dense enterprise applications or internal tools, including tables, graphs, hierarchies, dashboards, and administrative workflows.
- Strong Figma expertise, including components, variants, auto-layouts, and design system contributions.
- Track record of self-directed work with multiple concurrent deliverables and minimal supervision.
- Ability to interview technical users and translate complex business and engineering requirements into intuitive user experiences.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in a distributed, asynchronous environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with requirements management, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), or traceability platforms such as DOORS, Jama, Polarion, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with hardware development and systems engineering processes, including V-model development, verification workflows, and change control boards.
- Experience designing developer tools, engineering platforms, or other technical enterprise software.
- Strong prototyping skills for validating and communicating complex interactions.
- Experience working with highly technical users in engineering, systems, hardware, or software environments.
Top 3 Must-Have Skills
- Experience designing data-dense enterprise or internal tools, including tables, graphs, hierarchies, and admin interfaces.
- Strong Figma skills, including components, variants, and design system contributions.
- 4+ years of UX/Product Design experience with a portfolio showcasing shipped products.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with requirements management, PLM, ALM, or traceability tools.
- Familiarity with hardware development or systems engineering processes.
- Experience with developer tools or highly technical enterprise software.
- Prototyping expertise for complex user workflows and interactions.
