Senior Graphics Engineer

Position Overview
Meta’s Codec Avatars Lab is seeking a highly skilled Senior Graphics Engineer to help drive the development of a modern, high-performance rendering engine that powers next-generation research experiences. This role focuses on advancing rendering capabilities, improving performance, implementing cutting-edge graphics techniques, and integrating research innovations into production-quality demonstrations.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in C++, Vulkan, real-time rendering, GPU optimization, and advanced graphics technologies. You will collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to bring state-of-the-art graphics innovations from concept to reality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and optimize features within a low-level Vulkan rendering engine.
- Profile and improve GPU and CPU performance across the rendering pipeline.
- Support multi-GPU real-time rendering and multithreaded XR rendering workflows.
- Implement advanced rendering techniques including:
- Deferred Shading
- Ray Tracing
- HDR Rendering
- Improve display quality through high refresh-rate rendering and color-accurate HDR output.
- Integrate rendering systems with research initiatives and adjacent technologies across the organization.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve rendering engine and graphics-related issues.
- Contribute to cross-platform support across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments.
- Improve tooling, build reliability, and development workflows.
- Create technical documentation and assist in preparing components for potential external release.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming expertise in C++.
- Significant hands-on experience with Vulkan graphics development.
- Experience building desktop graphics applications or rendering systems.
- Strong understanding of:
- Real-time rendering pipelines
- Graphics architecture
- Shading models
- GPU programming concepts
- Experience profiling and optimizing both GPU and CPU performance.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git or Mercurial.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Game engine development experience.
- Experience with neural rendering, radiance fields, or Gaussian splatting.
- Hands-on experience with ray tracing, HDR, deferred rendering, or related techniques.
- Experience leveraging modern AI tools and workflows.
- Cross-platform development expertise across Linux, Windows, and macOS.
- Experience with OpenXR and VR/XR rendering environments.
- Knowledge of OpenGL, Direct3D 12, Metal, or mobile graphics development.
- Experience integrating graphics SDKs such as DLSS or other upscaling technologies.
- Experience with real-time networking or netcode development.
- Exposure to PyTorch, CUDA, TensorRT, or Python interoperability tools such as pybind11.
- Experience contributing to graphics research published at conferences such as SIGGRAPH or CVPR.
- Open-source development experience.
- Familiarity with build systems including CMake, Bazel, or Buck.

Candidates with experience in graphics engines, XR/VR systems, rendering research, or high-performance visualization applications will be especially successful in this role.
