Position: Software Design and Release Engineer
Location: Dearborn, MI (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time Contract
Pay: $43-45 per hour
Description: We are seeking an experienced ECG Software Design & Release (D&R) Engineer to lead the delivery, integration, and validation of Electronic Central Gateway (ECG) software across next-generation vehicle platforms (FNV2, FNV3, FNV3.x).
This role is critical to ensuring successful vehicle launches by acting as a key liaison between internal engineering teams, program management, and external suppliers. The ideal candidate combines strong embedded software expertise with agile program execution and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and validation.
Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end integration of ECG software into vehicle programs
- Ensure software meets technical requirements, quality standards, and delivery timelines
- Provide hands-on engineering support during vehicle launches
- Troubleshoot, test, and validate ECG software in lab and vehicle environments
- Support post-launch software updates, maintenance, and OTA improvements
- Partner with program teams, internal developers, and Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers
- Facilitate communication and alignment across stakeholders
- Champion Agile methodologies (Scrum/SAFe) to improve delivery efficiency
- Perform troubleshooting, flashing, and validation at system level (HIL/breadboard or vehicle)
- Collect and analyze data to improve software performance and quality
- Leverage connected vehicle data to support root cause analysis and issue resolution
- Identify and mitigate risks related to software development and integration
- Escalate critical issues and ensure alignment with program milestones
- Drive process improvements and encourage innovative problem-solving approaches
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in: Automotive software development, integration, or D&R engineering
- Experience with vehicle electrical architectures
- Supplier management and software delivery coordination experience
- Vehicle launch support and issue resolution in plant or lab environments
- Technical Skills: TCP/IP, Ethernet, networking protocols & standards, Jira, GitHub (or similar tools)
Preferred:
- FNV experience strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management experience
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation
