Job Summary
The Cloud Specialist (AWS) serves as a senior technical operations leader responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of secure, scalable cloud-based IT solutions. This role focuses on building and operationalizing infrastructure, security services, and system components within a government cloud AWS environment to deliver highly available and resilient services. The position provides technical leadership across production operations, cloud migrations, AIOps initiatives, and operational readiness, including participation in an on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support cloud-based infrastructure and services within a government AWS environment
- Lead integration of legacy platforms and applications into AWS architectures
- Build, maintain, and operationalize secure, highly available, and scalable cloud solutions
- Provide technical leadership for production operations, incident response, and on-call support
- Implement and enforce strong operational readiness and reliability standards
- Drive cloud migration efforts for legacy applications
- Lead and contribute to AIOps initiatives, including automation and intelligent monitoring solutions
- Monitor production environments using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Splunk, and CloudWatch
- Analyze system performance, identify trends, and proactively mitigate operational risks
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and business stakeholders through presentations and documentation
Years of Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, cloud operations, or systems engineering
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and supporting AWS-based environments
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an ANACI clearance
Skills Required
- Advanced expertise integrating legacy systems and applications with AWS
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud architecture best practices
- Proven experience with AIOps, including automation, tooling, and operational intelligence
- Extensive production monitoring experience using Grafana, Dynatrace, Splunk, and CloudWatch
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, prioritize issues, and make sound decisions
- Solid understanding of security principles, risk management, and operational controls
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and integrity in high-impact operational environments
