Position: Inverter Testing Technologist

Location: Allen Park, MI (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time Contract

Pay: $33-35 per hour

Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Inverter Testing Technologist to support the development of current and next-generation electrified vehicle traction inverters.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a key electromechanical builder—fabricate custom structural test stands and construct complex physical test setups from engineering drawings and schematics
  • Inspect critical inverter components (capacitors, power modules, and busbars), assemble prototype test samples, instrument them with diagnostic sensors, and build custom low-voltage and high-voltage wiring harnesses
  • Configure and operate advanced laboratory equipment—including high-voltage testers, thermal chambers, and power cyclers—while troubleshooting experimental setups, performing routine equipment maintenance, and executing safe, systematic teardowns
  • Support day-to-day lab operations through inventory management, shipping and receiving, equipment calibration, and maintaining a safe, highly organized facility

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of experience working in an R&D, validation, or test laboratory, with a proven track record of building, maintaining, and systematically tearing down complex electromechanical test setups
  • 2+ years of experience in Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) wiring harness fabrication, assembly, and quality inspection
  • Demonstrated experience in manual machining, custom prototyping, and fabricating test fixtures, mounts, or structural framing from CAD models, engineering drawings, or hand sketches
  • Proven experience reading, interpreting, and troubleshooting from both electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings
  • Strong working knowledge of high-voltage systems (208VAC–480VAC & 50VDC–1000VDC) and standard laboratory safety protocols, including ECPL (Energy Control / Power Lock-out) or LOTO

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in automotive technology, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping
  • Metrology & Blueprint Reading: Highly skilled in reading GD&T guidelines and using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators) to inspect finished parts
  • Experience with through-hole and surface-mount (SMT) PCB soldering
