Job Description:
We are seeking a Workers’ Compensation Claims Handler to support workers’ compensation claims at a plant location. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, conducting quality claim investigations, maintaining accurate claim documentation, coordinating return-to-work activities, and assisting with the management of medical, lost-time, and litigation costs.
The ideal candidate has experience with previous workers’ compensation claims, strong communication and investigative skills, and the ability to collaborate with employees, medical professionals, Human Resources, Labor representatives, attorneys, and plant leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and enter new workers’ compensation claims into the claim management system.
- Verify claim coding and ensure files are complete and properly documented.
- Conduct plant investigations and complete required three-point contacts.
- Interview claimants, employers, medical professionals, witnesses, and legal counsel.
- Prepare clear and thorough investigation summaries.
- Organize and prepare claim files for outside counsel.
- Assist with managing medical expenses, lost-time duration, and litigation costs.
- Participate in case management meetings.
- Coordinate with Medical, Human Resources, Labor, and plant leadership to develop return-to-work plans.
- Support claim representatives with larger or more complex claims.
- Process medical bills and other claim-related expense payments.
- Provide responsive and professional service to employees and internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 to 3 years of workers’ compensation claims experience
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation claim processes
- Strong investigative, interviewing, documentation, and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and priorities
- Experience using claim management or case management systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Workers’ compensation experience in a manufacturing, automotive, industrial, or plant environment
- Experience coordinating return-to-work or modified-duty programs
- Experience working with medical providers, attorneys, Human Resources, and Labor representatives
- Familiarity with medical bill and claim-related expense processing
