Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Claims Handler to serve as the primary Workers’ Compensation resource within a manufacturing plant environment. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring high-quality claims handling, and effectively managing claim costs while maintaining compliance with Illinois Workers’ Compensation regulations.
The ideal candidate will have experience handling Illinois Workers’ Compensation Lost Time claims, managing a full caseload independently, and driving timely, cost-effective claim resolutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full caseload of Illinois Workers’ Compensation claims, including complex and high-severity cases.
- Investigate claims, gather relevant information, and evaluate claim exposure.
- Develop and execute strategic action plans to ensure timely and cost-effective claim resolution.
- Establish, evaluate, and manage claim reserves throughout the life of each claim.
- Calculate, approve, and issue benefit payments, claim adjustments, and settlements within assigned authority levels.
- Prepare and submit required state filings within statutory deadlines.
- Coordinate vendor referrals for investigations, medical management, and litigation support.
- Utilize cost-containment strategies and vendor partnerships to minimize overall claim costs.
- Manage claim recovery opportunities, including subrogation, Second Injury Fund recoveries, Medicare offsets, and Social Security offsets.
- Report claims to excess carriers when required.
- Maintain clear communication with claimants, plant leadership, healthcare providers, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure claim files are accurately documented and compliant with company and regulatory requirements.
- Escalate complex issues and claims appropriately to management.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of Illinois Workers’ Compensation claims management experience.
- Experience handling Workers’ Compensation Lost Time claims.
- Strong knowledge of Illinois Workers’ Compensation statutes, regulations, and claims processes.
- Proven ability to manage a full caseload independently.
- Strong investigative, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience handling complex or high-exposure Workers’ Compensation claims in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
