Epitec is seeking a Theme Development Engineer to join our automotive client's team in Dearborn, MI. As a Theme Development Engineer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in bridging design and engineering, leading the integration of A-surface, feasibility, and functional requirements to turn studio themes into production-ready vehicle designs.

  • This is an ongoing W2 contract with potential for conversion
  • This is hybrid position in Dearborn, MI

Top Responsibilities:

  • Lead studio property setup and data integrity (content, ride height, manikin drop, suitability)
  • Lead design feasibility studies from FC0 through K6, including checklists, hardpoints plans, and surface integration
  • Integrate A-surface with thematic, functional, VA, and attribute inputs while preserving design intent and artistry
  • Guide initial theme setup and development ahead of functional, supplier, and attribute inputs
  • Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files to support physical and digital models
  • Create concept alternatives and proposals to balance thematic intent with functional and program requirements
  • Optimize and balance studio inputs, including exploring “what-might-be” concepts to support theme vision
  • Manage design and CAD data flowing into, within, and out of the studio
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers

Top Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or automotive-related field
  • 3+ years of experience in complete vehicle layout and packaging (Body and Trim)
  • Near-expert proficiency in CATIA with the ability to independently create complex 3D CAD proposals
  • Strong CAD and CAD design experience in automotive environments
  • Understanding of design feasibility processes and studio feasibility progression
  • Solid knowledge of production and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with legislative requirements impacting design feasibility
  • Experience leading reviews and presenting to decision-making forums
  • Exposure to design release engineering or structural engineering (preferred)
  • Ability to work onsite 4 days per week (Monday–Thursday, hybrid)
