Job Title: HR Generalist – Immigration Specialist
Location: Onsite in Troy, Michigan
Job Type: W2 Contract – 8 months, extension TBD
Pay: $24-$31/hour depending on experience and benefits
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented HR Contractor to support the U.S. Line HR Team. This role will provide a blend of administrative HR support, Workday data management, and immigration case coordination, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance and timely processing of immigration cases.
The ideal candidate is experienced in U.S. HR operations, has hands-on exposure to employment-based immigration processes, and is comfortable acting as a liaison between employees and immigration counsel.
Immigration Case Management (Primary Focus)
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison between employees and external immigration counsel
- Coordinate and track employment-based immigration cases (e.g., H-1B, L-1, PERM, green card processes)
- Ensure 100% compliance with U.S. immigration laws and company policies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date immigration records across two company entities
- Monitor case timelines and proactively follow up to ensure timely document submission and processing
- Communicate clearly with employees about case status, documentation requirements, and deadlines
- Partner with HR, legal, and external counsel to resolve issues and escalate concerns as needed
HR Administrative Support
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the U.S. HR team
- Respond to HR-related inquiries from employees/Managers and escalate appropriately as needed
- Maintain accurate and organized HR documentation
- Process and maintain employee data in Workday, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Support employee lifecycle transactions (e.g., hires, transfers, terminations, job changes)
- Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and completeness
- Support HR team initiatives and special projects as assigned
- Assist in process improvements related to HR operations and immigration
- Collaborate closely with HR Partners and other cross functional teams such as payroll, Talent Acquisition and compensation to ensure seamless HR operations
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth employee experience
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years in HR operations or shared services
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience managing or supporting U.S. employment-based immigration cases
- Strong understanding of U.S. immigration processes and compliance requirements
- Experience working with Workday
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, legal counsel, and HR partners
- Experience working with external immigration counsel
- Knowledge of HR compliance and regulatory standards
