3rd Shift Welding Manufacturing Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Welding Manufacturing Engineer to support 3rd shift operations within a high-volume fabrication manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting welding processes, supporting robotic and manual welding operations, assisting production teams during off-shift hours, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to maximize uptime and quality.
The ideal candidate will have direct experience supporting welding operations in a manufacturing environment, including robotic welding systems and production troubleshooting. This role requires an engineer who is comfortable working independently, responding to production issues in real time, and collaborating with operators, maintenance personnel, and manufacturing leadership.
This is a fully onsite position in Davenport, IA and requires availability for 3rd shift hours. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for 3rd shift production operations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to robotic and manual welding processes
  • Support welding automation systems and production equipment
  • Investigate root causes of production downtime and quality concerns
  • Work directly with operators and maintenance technicians to restore production
  • Troubleshoot Manufacturing Execution System (MES) issues impacting production
  • Support implementation of new manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standardized procedures
  • Train operators on welding processes, equipment, and best practices
  • Participate in continuous improvement, productivity, and quality initiatives
  • Follow up on production issues to ensure long-term corrective actions are implemented

Required Qualifications

Must Have Manufacturing Welding Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of manufacturing engineering, welding engineering, or production support experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience supporting welding operations on a production floor
  • Experience troubleshooting and improving manual welding processes
  • Experience supporting robotic welding systems in a manufacturing setting

Must Have Automation Experience

  • Experience working with robotic welding cells
  • Understanding of robotic welding parameters, torch alignment, weld quality, fixturing, and process optimization
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot robotic welding production issues

Must Have Production Support Experience

  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations
  • Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working directly with production operators and maintenance teams
  • Ability to make decisions independently during off-shift operations

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Microsoft Outlook proficiency
  • Experience creating manufacturing documentation and work instructions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Schedule Requirements

  • Must be available to work 3rd Shift (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM)
  • Must be willing to work overtime
  • Must be available for weekend coverage as needed
  • Must be able to work onsite in Davenport, IA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fanuc robotic welding experience
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting Fanuc robot welding cells
  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Experience in fabrication, heavy manufacturing, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, or industrial manufacturing
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience
  • Previous experience training operators on equipment and manufacturing processes

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing engineer who has spent time on the plant floor supporting welding production. They understand both manual and robotic welding processes, can quickly diagnose equipment and process issues, and are comfortable owning production support activities with limited supervision during off-shift operations. Candidates with Fanuc robotic welding experience will be highly preferred.

Compensation

  • $44.00 – $49.00 per hour
  • Overtime available
  • 12-month contract assignment
  • Weekly pay

Only candidates with manufacturing welding experience and experience supporting robotic welding systems will be considered. Fanuc robotic welding experience is strongly preferred.
