Location:  El Segundo, CA 

Job Type: 6 month contract, possible extension W2 

Expected hours per week: 40 hours per week 

Schedule: On-site, 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday 

Pay Range:  $35-$40 per hour  

Job Description:  

Position Summary 
We are seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented Chemical Regulatory & Compliance Engineer to join a Product Safety, Regulatory & Compliance team. This position will support the organization’s chemical regulatory compliance program and play a key role in ensuring products meet applicable global safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in chemical regulations, restricted substances management, and product safety within the consumer products industry. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research, monitor, and summarize emerging global, federal, state, and regional chemical regulations, standards, and restricted substance requirements affecting consumer products. 

  • Track and assess regulatory developments such as TSCA, REACH, Proposition 65, and other applicable chemical compliance requirements. 

  • Support the incorporation of regulatory requirements into internal policies, procedures, and compliance programs. 

  • Maintain and update the organization’s Restricted Substances List (RSL). 

  • Review chemical composition data, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) and Bills of Substances, against restricted substance requirements. 

  • Provide technical assessments, risk evaluations, and recommendations regarding material and chemical compliance. 

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and international chemical reporting obligations. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve chemical management systems, databases, and compliance processes. 

  • Support supplier compliance programs, chemical declarations, and product stewardship initiatives. 

  • Contribute to efforts that enhance product safety, regulatory compliance, and process efficiency. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline. 

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in chemical regulatory compliance, product stewardship, product safety, or a related field. 

  • Knowledge of global chemical regulations and restricted substances requirements applicable to consumer products. 

  • Familiarity with common consumer product materials, including polymers, coatings, adhesives, inks, textiles, and packaging materials. 

  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and technical writing skills. 

  • Ability to evaluate complex regulatory requirements and communicate findings effectively. 

  • Experience working with regulatory databases, chemical declarations, supplier compliance programs, or product stewardship initiatives is preferred. 

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

Preferred Skills 

  • Understanding of chemical reporting requirements and restricted substances management. 

  • Experience interpreting Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) and chemical composition data. 

  • Knowledge of global environmental and product safety regulations. 

  • Proficiency with data management systems and compliance databases. 

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
