Position Summary – Control/Electrical Technician
Under general supervision, the Control/Electrical Technician installs, operates, maintains, and repairs plant instrumentation, process control systems, and electrical equipment. This includes distributed discrete and analog computer systems, controllers, process actuators, motors, switchgear, wiring, and lighting systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair plant instrumentation and process control equipment
- Perform calibration, maintenance, and repair of emissions monitoring equipment and controllers
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Maintain and repair all electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance on electric motors and switchgear, including live high?voltage work
- Conduct routine vibration monitoring of rotating equipment
- Assist operations during plant upsets or trips
- Read and interpret electrical plans, diagrams, and technical specifications
- Maintain accurate records of control and electrical system modifications, including temporary jumpers
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment through job planning, housekeeping, adherence to safety policies, and hazard identification/correction
- Perform other duties as assigned or as operational needs require
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree in a related field preferred
- Master Electrical License preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in power plant operations as an operator and/or prior control room experience required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and understand complex electrical, electronic, and logic diagrams, as well as technical manuals
- Hands-on experience running conduit, wiring breakers, and working with 277V, 480V, and 4160V equipment
- Experience using Megger testing equipment and working with wire motors
- Strong instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical judgment and ability to plan and perform diversified work
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear direction and feedback to team members
- Flexibility to work overtime and rotating shift schedules, including weekends and holidays
