Disease Intervention Specialist
Location: Providence, RI
Schedule: Full Onsite or Hybrid (2-5 days onsite per week, depending on assignment)

Compensation: $38.81/hr 

Overview

Epitec is seeking a dedicated Disease Intervention Specialist to support a public health program focused on the prevention, detection, and control of infectious diseases. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in public health, community outreach, disease surveillance, patient engagement, and epidemiological investigations. The successful candidate will support disease prevention initiatives, conduct case investigations and contact tracing activities, and collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and public health professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) navigation services.
  • Conduct interviews with individuals using standardized case report forms.
  • Perform contact tracing and follow-up activities related to infectious disease cases.
  • Provide client counseling using established guidance and escalate complex clinical concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Enter, maintain, and update accurate information within electronic surveillance systems and program databases.
  • Support the development and distribution of disease prevention and health education resources.
  • Conduct field visits to perform Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) services for tuberculosis patients.
  • Review Video Directly Observed Therapy (VDOT) submissions and maintain digital treatment records.
  • Compile and prepare reports containing surveillance and statistical data.
  • Participate in infectious disease outbreak investigations and mitigation efforts.
  • Collaborate with epidemiologists, nurses, and public health partners on disease prevention strategies.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to community, public, and private agencies.
  • Educate individuals and organizations regarding infectious disease regulations, reporting requirements, and public health statutes.
  • Support clinic operations and public health initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with confidentiality, privacy, and data security requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Work, Community Health, Biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting public health, epidemiology, healthcare, community outreach, case management, or disease prevention programs.
  • Knowledge of infectious disease prevention, surveillance, and control principles.
  • Experience interviewing, counseling, or working directly with patients, clients, or community members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage confidential information and maintain accurate records.
  • Experience entering and maintaining data within databases and electronic systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in both field and office environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
  • Experience with HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), tuberculosis, or other infectious disease programs.
  • Experience supporting epidemiological investigations, disease surveillance, contact tracing, or outbreak response initiatives.
  • Knowledge of public health regulations, reporting requirements, and community health practices.
