IT Software Engineer 5 – Release Manager / DevOps

Location: Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL (Hybrid – approximately 1 day onsite per week, may increase)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Compensation: $85–$88/hr W2 + Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k) Match

We are seeking an experienced Release Manager to lead and coordinate software releases across multiple Agile teams in a cloud-based enterprise environment. This role combines release management, stakeholder coordination, CI/CD oversight, and DevOps support to ensure successful deployments and production stability.

Responsibilities

  • Own release planning, release cadence, deployment execution, and Go/No-Go activities
  • Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Product, Infrastructure, and Business stakeholders
  • Monitor and manage CI/CD pipelines, deployment activities, and release readiness
  • Facilitate rollback planning, risk mitigation, release documentation, and post-release validation
  • Lead Scrum of Scrums and cross-team release coordination efforts
  • Review deployment logs, triage pipeline failures, and coordinate resolution with development teams
  • Manage release variables, environment configurations, daily builds, and feature deployment activities
  • Drive continuous improvement in release quality, deployment reliability, and delivery processes

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Release Management, Delivery Management, DevOps, or related experience
  • 6+ years working with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Azure DevOps, and modern DevOps tools
  • Experience supporting Agile/Scrum software delivery across multiple teams
  • Strong understanding of AWS cloud environments and deployment processes
  • Experience coordinating complex releases involving multiple stakeholders and dependencies
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required to support release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • Release Train Engineer (RTE), Scrum Master, Technical Program Manager, or similar background
  • Python experience
  • Experience with automated testing, BDD, and Cucumber
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, rollback procedures, and release governance

Strong communication and release leadership are critical for success.
