Mechanical Engineer II – Continuous Product Improvement (CPI)

We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) initiatives within a high?impact engineering organization supporting large engine platforms. This role plays a key coordination and execution role across engineering teams, ensuring CPI and LEPI projects are planned, tracked, and closed effectively while maintaining a strong customer focus.
What You’ll Do
- Provide oversight and coordination for CPI and LEPI projects across a major engine platform
- Support L3 and L4 engineering teams by identifying resource needs, tracking progress, and accelerating issue resolution
- Ensure CPI projects are launched correctly with clear ownership and defined project plans within 30 days of root cause identification
- Maintain CPI project lists and tracking tools, monitoring milestones, DMAIC phases, and target closure dates
- Identify at?risk or overdue projects and drive re?planning to eliminate placeholder timelines
- Manage CPI system data to ensure accuracy of charge numbers, sponsors, serial numbers, project plans, and reporting fields
- Develop and maintain standardized checklists for each project phase
- Prepare concise summaries and one?page materials for leadership reviews and escalation discussions
- Lead or support CPI meetings, status updates, planning sessions, and closure documentation
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, customer service, and supply chain teams to drive continuous improvement
Work Environment
- On?site, office?based role in Lafayette, IN
- Standard business hours with some flexibility to support meetings across time zones
- Highly collaborative environment supporting multiple product?focused engineering teams
- Limited domestic travel possible (up to 25%)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 2–4 years of engineering experience (internship experience accepted; minimum 2 years)
- Strong organizational and time?management skills
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across cross?functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Basic understanding of gas and/or diesel engine operation
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong data analysis skills
- Familiarity with CPI, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting project coordination or issue resolution efforts
- Comfort interacting with senior engineers and leadership
- Familiarity with engineering systems or tools such as Creo, Teamcenter, or similar platforms
- Exposure to industry standards (CSA, EU, API) is a plus
