Job Type: W2 Contract
Expected hours per week: 40 hours per week
Schedule: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM EST (In-person Mon-Thu and remote on Fridays)
Pay: $40.31 per hour

Summary

As a Theme Development Engineer, you will partner closely with Design, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to translate design vision into production-feasible reality. This role bridges styling and engineering—developing early concepts, integrating functional and manufacturing inputs into A-surface, and supporting both digital and physical model development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead studio property setup and integrity, including:
    • Content and data pedigree
    • Ride height
    • Manikin drop
    • Overall package suitability
  • Lead completion of studies within the Design Feasibility FC Process (FC0 through K6), including:
    • Design Development Checklists
    • Hardpoints Plan
    • Integration of aligned plans into surface data
  • Lead the integration of A-surface with thematic, VA, functional, and attribute inputs while preserving emotive character and design intent
  • Guide initial theme setup and development, often ahead of functional, supplier, or attribute inputs
  • Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files to support both physical and digital model development and theme overlays
  • Provide concept alternatives and provocations to help reconcile thematic intent with functional and program assumptions
  • Manage data flow within, into, and out of the design studio
  • Build and support physical models that validate concepts and feasibility

Required Skills

  • CATIA – Independently create complex 3D proposals; near-expert proficiency
  • CAD – Independently create complex 3D proposals; near-expert proficiency
  • CAD Design – Advanced capability in complex 3D design development

Preferred Skills

  • Design Release Engineering – Basic understanding and hands-on experience
  • Structural Engineering – Basic understanding and exposure

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or automotive-equivalent degree
  • 3+ years of experience in complete vehicle layout/package
    • Including Body and Trim
  • Strong understanding of production processes
  • Familiarity with design feasibility tools and studio feasibility progression
  • Working knowledge of legislative requirements impacting design feasibility
  • Experience leading reviews and presenting to decision-making forum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
