Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Material Handling Supervisor to lead material flow and warehouse operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In this role, you will supervise an hourly workforce and ensure materials are received, stored, moved, and delivered to production safely, accurately, and on time.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in material handling, logistics, inventory control, or MP&L, along with proven leadership experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise, train, coach, and develop material handlers and equipment operators.
- Assign daily work and hold hourly employees accountable for safety, quality, delivery, and throughput.
- Coordinate the receiving, storage, movement, and distribution of raw materials and finished goods.
- Ensure production lines receive the correct materials on schedule to prevent production disruptions.
- Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation.
- Utilize WMS and/or ERP systems to track inventory and material movement.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct safety meetings and inspections of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Identify material-flow bottlenecks and implement improvements using Lean manufacturing principles.
- Coordinate maintenance and servicing of material-handling equipment.
- Work closely with Production, Procurement, Quality, and other plant departments to resolve material or inventory issues.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of experience in material handling, warehouse operations, logistics, or a related area.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or team-lead experience.
- Strong experience leading and assigning work to hourly employees.
- Knowledge of inventory control, cycle counting, and material-flow processes.
- Experience working with WMS and/or ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of OSHA and manufacturing safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Ability to work any shift, rotating shifts, and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising a unionized hourly workforce.
- Previous experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Experience within body shop, stamping, subassembly, assembly, or machining operations.
- Previous MP&L or manufacturing logistics experience.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and constraint management principles.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
