About the Role
We are seeking a Supervisor – Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) to lead hourly unionized teams and drive operational excellence within our manufacturing environment. In this role, you will serve as a key leader responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted flow of materials throughout the facility—from receiving and warehousing to production line delivery and shipment of finished goods.
This position plays a critical role in promoting lean manufacturing practices, continuous improvement initiatives, and synchronized material flow to meet customer demand while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coach team members on safety, quality, productivity, and standardized work practices.
- Supervise daily material handling operations, including receiving, storage, line-side delivery, and shipment activities.
- Ensure seamless material flow throughout the facility to support production schedules.
- Monitor production issues and occurrences, acting as a first responder for operational support.
- Conduct Process Confirmation activities to verify safe, efficient, and quality-focused operations.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and problem-solving initiatives at the team level.
- Manage and develop Team Leaders and hourly employees through coaching, recognition, and accountability.
- Lead and support unionized workforce operations while fostering a positive team environment.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet production and material handling requirements.
- Support the successful launch of new parts and engineering changes through proactive planning and cross-functional collaboration.
- Identify data integrity issues within CMMS and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain required documentation and perform standard supervisory administrative responsibilities.
- Promote Lean Manufacturing principles and support synchronized material flow initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, logistics, materials management, or related operations.
- Ability to work any shift, including rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Experience leading teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and multitasking capabilities.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience assigning work, holding employees accountable, and driving performance metrics related to safety, quality, and throughput.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Industrial Operations, Supply Chain Management, Transportation & Logistics, Applied Engineering Science, Packaging Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
- Experience within automotive manufacturing environments, including:
- Body Shop
- Stamping
- Paint
- Sub-Assembly
- Assembly Operations
- Machining
- Prior experience managing a unionized workforce (UAW preferred).
- Experience with safety, quality, and material planning & logistics operations.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of constraint management principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- CNC machining experience (PTO-specific environments preferred).
- Helium leak stand experience (PTO-specific environments preferred).
