About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Program / Project Manager to support a backend platform within a large enterprise digital organization. This role is focused on execution, coordination, and delivery of complex technology initiatives supporting large-scale, multi-year programs.
This is not an Agile transformation role. The team has established processes in place and is looking for a seasoned program manager who can step in, follow existing processes, and drive results with minimal ramp-up. You will work closely with backend engineering teams, technical leads, and front-end project managers to ensure integrations, dependencies, and delivery timelines align across multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery of backend platform programs, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope
- Partner with technical leads to gather requirements, align on solution design, and identify impacted teams
- Facilitate planning sessions to define technical designs, work breakdown structures, dependencies, and sequencing
- Manage and coordinate work across 5–15 cross-functional teams simultaneously
- Document project plans, epics, features, and dependencies in Azure DevOps
- Drive execution through regular status tracking, risk management, and issue resolution
- Coordinate closely with front-end project managers to ensure API integrations and dependencies are aligned
- Prepare and present clear status reports, metrics, and executive-level communications
- Lead meetings, influence stakeholders, and negotiate priorities to keep delivery on track
- Ensure alignment with established digital delivery processes and standards
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of IT project/program management experience or Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience
- Proven experience managing large, complex, multi-team technical programs
- Strong knowledge of SDLC and experience working with backend engineering teams
- Experience managing dependencies, risks, and delivery across distributed teams
- Advanced experience using Azure DevOps (JIRA acceptable; Azure DevOps preferred)
- Strong experience with documentation and collaboration tools such as Confluence
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight
Nice to Have / Preferred
- Background or exposure to software development (not required to code)
- Experience working with backend platforms, APIs, and data-driven systems
- Data experience, including understanding what data is appropriate to use versus constrain
- Experience with reporting tools and executive-level reporting (Power BI a plus)
- AWS knowledge or certification
- PMP and/or Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
- Change Management or Six Sigma certification
Soft Skills (Required)
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence without authority
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to negotiate and align multiple stakeholders
- High level of initiative, ownership, and drive
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities
