Senior Engineer, Product – Embedded Software
Location: Urbandale, IA (Onsite)
Duration: 12-Month Contract + Possible Extension
Pay Rate: $80.00 – $76.00/hour

Position Overview
John Deere is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the HVC product team in the design, development, integration, and deployment of embedded software solutions for advanced machine and tractor systems. This role will contribute to bringing innovative software solutions from concept through production while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and implement embedded software solutions for vehicle and machine control systems.
- Support software integration across multiple platforms and production systems.
- Develop and maintain software for displays, controllers, sensors, and related embedded applications.
- Participate in system design, validation, debugging, and performance optimization activities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and technical partners to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Follow established software engineering processes, coding standards, and version control practices.
- Support product development initiatives from discovery through production launch.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in embedded software development.
- Strong experience with Linux-based development environments.
- Hands-on programming experience with Embedded C and C++.
- Experience with systems integration and cross-platform software development.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices, simulation methods, and sensor integration.
- Experience using GitHub or similar version control tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Lua, QML, MATLAB/Simulink, JSON, or Protobuf.
- Experience developing display or controller software.
- Exposure to agricultural equipment, heavy machinery, vehicle systems, or related industries.
- Knowledge of data analysis tools and connected machine technologies.
