Overview

Epitec is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop, integrate, debug, and validate software for hardware-connected embedded systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong experience with Embedded C, MATLAB/Simulink, and embedded software testing. The engineer will work closely with software, hardware, systems, controls, and test teams to translate technical requirements into reliable embedded software and algorithms.
Automotive experience involving CAN, LIN, diagnostics, NVM, HIL testing, and low-level debugging is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, debug, integrate, and maintain embedded software using Embedded C.
  • Develop and maintain MATLAB/Simulink models, algorithms, and supporting code.
  • Translate system, functional, and software requirements into software designs and implementable algorithms.
  • Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing of embedded software.
  • Develop and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test scenarios and analyze results.
  • Debug low-level embedded software and troubleshoot software, hardware, and integration issues.
  • Develop and troubleshoot software involving CAN and LIN communication protocols.
  • Support embedded functionality involving diagnostics and NVM (Non-Volatile Memory).
  • Analyze software and system test failures, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with hardware, controls, systems, software, and test engineering teams.
  • Support requirements management, traceability, test planning, defect tracking, verification, and validation.
  • Participate in software integration, validation, and release activities throughout the embedded development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of overall IT/engineering experience, including 4+ years of hands-on embedded software development.
  • Strong hands-on Embedded C development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink development, modeling, or algorithm implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with embedded software unit and integration testing.
  • Experience debugging embedded software and investigating low-level software issues.
  • Ability to translate system and technical requirements into software designs, algorithms, and working implementations.
  • Experience with at least one additional programming language or advanced proficiency in a primary programming language.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive embedded software development experience.
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and hardware/software integration.
  • Experience with CAN and LIN communication protocols.
  • Automotive diagnostics experience.
  • Experience with NVM / Non-Volatile Memory.
  • MATLAB/Simulink-based algorithm development and validation.
  • Requirements management and requirements traceability.
  • Embedded test automation.
  • Low-level debugging and root-cause analysis involving embedded software and hardware.
  • Experience collaborating directly with hardware, controls, systems, and test engineering teams.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will be able to demonstrate significant hands-on experience across the full embedded software lifecycle, particularly:
Embedded C + MATLAB/Simulink + Embedded Software Testing
This position is best suited for an engineer who has personally developed and debugged embedded code, converted requirements into algorithms/software, and validated embedded systems through unit, integration, system, and/or HIL testing.
Note: This role requires substantial embedded software engineering experience and is not intended for candidates whose backgrounds are primarily web development, general application development, or software testing without hands-on embedded development.
